THE ORIGINS OF WICKED WAIATA
Kia Ora and Welcome to Wicked Waiata
Wicked Waiata started in 1997 when, after completing an audio engineering course, DJ Pacifika decided to remix all the old songs. His first remix - Sunfire - Young Free & Single - is still downloaded even today.
DJ Pacifika would play some of his mixes at the beginning of every dj performance, which would become a very popular part of the night.
It wasn't until he played it at whanau reunions where he dedicated it to his Nana, that the Wicked Waiata was born. Every reunion became an opportunity to catch up with his Nana and another reason to release one more volume.
After 8 Wicked Waiatas - he produced a Ngati Dread Reggae compilation & Australasia's first ever video remix album along with a few other albums.
After his Nana passed away, the reasons for making another volume at the reunions also ceased to exist, so DJ Pacifika decided to retire from making Wicked Waiatas.
Now based in Sydney, DJ Pacifika performs only at select events around Australia & New Zealand.
He now dedicates his time to producing artists and songs & launching ecommerce concepts.
A future concept will involve the ability to learn Te Reo and experience Pacific Culture for free through the power of social networking.
